American Designer, Ralph Lauren has gained not only international fame but global recognition for his outstanding work. The designers clothing line and accessory line has won him numerous prestigious awards, and has made Lauren an iconic figure in the world of fashion.

Ralph Lauren was born in the Bronx, New York City in 1939, Ralph Lauren (was Lifshitz) came from humble beginnings. He attended the Baruch School of Business and Civic Administration of the City University of New York, this was not to Lauren's liking and dropped out after two years. From there he served time in the army and when he returned, he worked as a salesman for Brooks Brothers. Ralph Lauren's first big break was in 1967 where he opened a neck tie store that sold his own designs, called 'Polo'. With the financial backing of Norman Hilton, he later purchased the name Hilton. Ralph Lauren began as a popular brand amongst clothing and has since gained high credibility world wide allowing the brand to expand and sell their sumptuous sunglass collection.

Currently one of the most successful designers to come out of the US, Ralph Lauren’s hard work certainly paid off. A global name through fashion, fragrance and accessories- amongst many other divisions, Ralph Lauren has dominated using his undeniably ‘all- American’ designs. Imitated by many, achieved by non, this fashion power- house has created a range of premium eyewear that showcases the brand's clean cut and polished image.

It was in the 1990's with the success of other sub labels such as Polo jeans and Purple label that Lauren created the daughter of Ralph Lauren, Ralph. It was created to appeal to young women between 16-25, offering a lifestyle at a reasonable price.
