Gant sunglasses channel that everyday cool and are renowned for their casual aesthetic.
Way back in 1914, Bernard Gant travelled all the way from the depths of the Ukraine to the garment district of Manhatton and started his first job as a collar-sewing specialist for some of the biggest fashion brands at the time. On every shirt featuring his handiwork he stamped a small diamond 'G' onto the bottom hem as a sign of his quality craftsmanship. Such was the genius of his work that soon wised-up shoppers would search through clothing rails looking for his insignia instead of what was written on the neck label.
Realising he might be on to something with his fashion expertise, in 1949 Bernard Gant decided to take his craftsmanship and start his own fashion business: Gant Shirtmakers, the brand we know today as Gant. Bernard Gant recruited his sons Marty and Elliot and together they began producing shirts with an emphasis on quality.
Gant sold finely crafted shirts to respected labels in America and rode the wave of 60's preppy style by crafting clothes for the Ivy League set. Gant shirts worn open-collar and without a necktie became de riguer for male American students wanting to look smart but maintain an informal air. Similar products were offered by other premium fashion labels, but only Gant had the prestige among the adolescent population of America. Gant's Madras shirts were instant best-sellers and other brands were seen as inferior purely because they hadn't adopted the Gant cut.
Gant's ambition was unlimited. Not content with selling just through any store, Gant pestered the most prestigious retailer in town, Paul Stuart, until finally Gant were granted space on the store's shelves and began selling to the trendy New York crowd. By only advertising in respected publications, Gant ensured their brand was associated with the finer things in society and, after a difficult starting year, sales began to pick up and a classic American sportswear brand was born. Gant shirts sold as fast as they were made and Gant became one of the largest shirt producers in the world.
Nowadays Gant have branched out from strictly clothing into the world of fashion accessories and the sunglasses on offer represent Gant's core values of integrity, refinement and character. From humble roots grew an international fashion brand incorporating American and European fashion influences. Initially basing their styling on their authentic East Coast heritage, Gant developed their products further by taking inspiration from across the Atlantic and producing ranges of clothing, eyewear, watches and footwear that are venerated the world over.
